I’ve tried them all from Formula 1 to that Silverman guy.. and never have I even won anything once..

But he gave me some numbers and I matched 3 numbers from the play out of $20 bucks. Never in my life have I actually matched 3 numbers on a play that is like once in two years or so.  Well I promised him if his system worked I would put a link out to his site.

So here is the link and I’m shocked because I’m going to buy this system in about 5 minutes.

It’s WinsLotto.com you should check it out.

Here is the link also..

A career in DJ’ing demands high quality innovation and continuous analysis and experiments with the same track, which can be very frustrating, especially in the early stage when after the initial success, you are unable to produce unique melodies and entice the public. Seeing the tough competition and heavy price tags of deejay equipments and unavailability of good free DJ software, it is advised to make a wise and carefully thought decision before opting DJ as a career. How To Get Started The Right Way As A Musician And Profit! (Ezine Ready)

0
by on May 17, 2012 at 8:56 pm

By Mark Grove

This is a repost for single musicians who want to break into music working as a sideman and learning how to promote yourself to other bands, and help them as well. It’s alway about creating value, value, value for other musicians. It’s not about just making a buck. Never be out for a quick buck as a working musician or you’ll fail before you get started. I always stress getting started slowly to learn the ropes and listen and learn from other players who have succeeded.

As much as someone may be a great player, if they have never made a buck and badmouth other players, please steer clear of them. If they never made a buck but have good things to say and can teach you, let them show you their way, but follow and learn from top players who actually are making a good buck.

Money isn’t everything and it shouldn’t be a driving force for you. It’s all about relationships with people. But listen and learn from both the creative and business side of being a musician. But start off with these few tips I’m giving you in this little article. Please be kind to other musicians and do what’s right to help musicians and be a better player.

Here’s The Post: Much Success To You In Being A Great Musician

I know a lot of players out there are afraid of getting out there on stage, but it’s important to get into the area of insecurity and make mistakes. Even in the public eye. Being able to make mistakes and be criticized for your playing will be a tell all sign if you’ve got thick enough skin mentally to handle being on stage.

Most say they do, but the truth is most don’t. Start by just jamming at home with friends and playing a few songs you know. Not ones you can’t handle. The thing is, musicians say they will go to jam sessions when they’re prepared enough technically and mentally. The thing is every player is never really fully ready, and you need to just do it.

No one can do it for you. Only you can. You only need to know a couple songs and ask to do them on stage at a blues club. Most players who run Jam sessions are very accommodating to other players who have never been to a jam session.

Ask if you can play a song you know. That way it makes you feel comfortable. But chances are you’ll be on stage for one more song which may not be your own. Try your bloody heart out on it, even if you can’t get it down. Be prepared to look bad. Think of it this way–most people don’t have the guts to get onstage and look like foolish.

So be prepared to learn other material, and from other musicians. Look for musicians you can jam with to learn from. Start writing your own songs, and see if you can sit in with other bands. Interview musicians and offer to write articles for them at no charge. Create value for other players. Learn all you can from players, people on the business end of music and from the top magazines on playing.

In my next article I’ll go into how to continue to create value for other bands, start your own band and open for other bands.

Success and Peace To All Players,

Mark

How to Choose a Violin Teacher (Ezine Ready)

0
by on May 16, 2012 at 2:18 pm

When choosing a violin teacher (or music teacher) for yourself, your son, or your daughter, there are a number of factors that must be taken into consideration. First and foremost is the question of value. What do you consider important in choosing a teacher, in general? How much does music play a role in your life and/or how much of a role would you like music to play in the life of your child?

Let’s address the role of the teacher first. As is the case in any subject, a teacher has the ability to make or break a child’s enthusiasm and sense of interest in a topic. How many of us have memories of teachers who just made a particular subject dreadful! On the flip side, so many of us also have memories of a special favorite teacher who made a subject come alive. Because violin lessons are so intensive in nature, the necessity of student-teacher chemistry is vital. Violin lessons are usually conducted in a one-to-one fashion and last 30-60 minutes on average.  In my opinion, the student-teacher relationship should be the final determining factor in choosing the right violin teacher. Many violinists offer trial lessons (even for free!) where both teacher and student can try each other out to see if there is a good fit.

Now, a word about price. Learning the violin takes commitment. You or your child will need weekly lessons. Here in Boston, prices can range from $25-$200 per lesson. A well-known teacher with high credentials, such as a doctorate degree, or a performer in a major orchestra might charge $100/hour or more.  A student in college will likely charge on the low-end. Please don’t be put off by the cost. Experience matters and musicians have to eat! There are also only a limited amount of hours available to teach, due to the after-school scheduling of most students.

Are you musically inclined? Would you like to impart your love of music to your child? Or perhaps as an adult, you would like to develop a hidden talent! Music is really a labor of love. Whether professional or amateur, the commitment necessary to learn a musical instrument is so great that one must truly love to communicate in order to be a good musician. There is something magical about conveying your innermost feelings through your instrument. In reality, it is a partnership between the performer, the composer, and the audience. While most children are not ready to understand this partnership yet, they can certainly benefit from the discipline that music lessons provide.

In fact, so much more is taught than just how to play the violin! My students learn how to be really good listeners. They also develop character and self-esteem because they are taught never to give up. Yet, they are also taught to seek “out-of-the-box” solutions to problems that cannot be solved through repeating passages alone. Both of these traits apply beyond the music lesson and translate into life skills.

From a practical standpoint, what are your ultimate goals? Please know that if you are an adult and would like to be a virtuoso like Itzhak Perlman, it is unfortunately too late, as it takes over 10,000 hours of practice. Still, it is NEVER too late to learn how to play at a decent level with proper guidance. Furthermore, if your mind is technically inclined, and you enjoy putting together puzzles and/or computer programs line-by-line, you are particularly suited for the hobby of music making, since a musical piece is learned by putting together many parts, phrase by phrase and section by section.

From the standpoint of violin lessons for children, there is a highly important dynamic between the student and his or her parent(s) that comes into play. While I do not advocate a one-size-fits-all approach, many of my students have a parent sit in on the lesson. Others have parents help them practice their music at home. This is a great way to build a rapport between a child and his or her mother or father. In this day, how many parents wish they had a way to relate better to their children?! Music lessons provide a great way to bond.

At the end of the day, music, when taught properly, is all about communication through love. There is no better way to express feelings, whether between parents and their children, the teacher and student, or between the performer and the audience, than through the wordless wonder of music.

Choosing Between an Electric and Acoustic Guitar when Starting Your Guitar Lessons (Ezine Ready)

Choosing Between an Electric and Acoustic Guitar when Starting Your Guitar Lessons

It can be difficult to make the right choice between an electric or an acoustic guitar when you’re just getting started, but if you approach it logically, it’s definitely possible to ensure that you’re getting the best option for yourself!

Something that’s asked quite frequently by beginners in playing the guitar is whether they should buy an acoustic or an electric one. Many people seem to think that if they’re just starting out their guitar lessons, they must necessarily get an acoustic guitar – the truth is that it’s actually perfectly fine to start with any of the two types of guitars as you’re beginning your learning process. Each guitar has its advantages and disadvantages, and you have to consider some intricate differences between the two types of guitars, like their physical differences, cost and portability. The most important thing is to keep in mind which guitar would most adequately suit your musical interests and your goals for your guitar playing, as you’re starting your guitar lessons.

Physical considerations

Something very important to keep in mind when comparing the two types of guitars is that an acoustic guitar – at least the ones around the beginner price level – will be a bit more difficult to play in terms of physical difficulties. Electric guitars tend to have thinner strings than acoustic models, which makes the strings a bit easier to press down on in order to produce notes. When just starting out with the guitar, it can be somewhat difficult to press the strings hard enough to get the notes to ring – so the electric guitar can be slightly disadvantageous in this regard.

The neck of the guitar is that long, thin part of the instrument that you press down on in order to play notes. The distance from the strings to the neck is called the “action” – if the strings are very far from the neck, a guitar is said to have “high action” while on the other hand, a guitar with “low action” would have its strings very close to the neck. The higher the action of the guitar is, the harder you’ll have to push the strings in order to make a note ring, and thus the harder the guitar would be to play. An acoustic guitar suitable for a beginner would have higher action than a beginning electric guitar – so the electric guitar has a slight advantage in this regard. Even though these differences are quite real, they aren’t that huge in reality. However, it is worth considering something like this for children, or people with overly sensitive fingertips. While an acoustic guitar could be slightly more difficult to play at first, it’s not a large enough difference to not consider it if you’re attracted to it.

Cost and portability

What we said above may make it sound like acoustic guitars are a less ideal choice, but even if it was a pretty good argument, the next section will look at something in which acoustics tend to really shine. You can expect to pay more or less the same price for a beginner level guitar of both types – around $100-$300 is the general case. The difference is that with the acoustic guitar, your only additional expenses are picks, books for your lessons, and other indirect expenses – the guitar itself is the most significant cost in all of this. On the other hand, with an electric guitar, you’ll also have to pay for an amplifier, which will typically set you back another $100-$200, so starting with an electric guitar will bring up the initial price that you’ll have to pay. This may be something to consider if you’re just testing the water and want to get a feel for what it’s like to play the instrument. The difference isn’t that great – but it is a difference in the end, and it’s something you have to consider.

Additionally, the fact that you have to use an amplifier to play an electric guitar makes it less portable than an acoustic – you’ll also need to lug around all your extra equipment. An electric guitar played without an amplifier won’t make any significant sound, while an acoustic is designed to be played without an amplifier. So if you’re interested in something like playing around a campfire, or you’d rather keep things simple, an acoustic guitar would likely be a better choice.

The most crucial detail

Probably the most important thing to keep in mind when deciding which guitar to begin with, is what type of music you’re most interested in playing. Even though at the start of your guitar lessons it may seem too early to consider that, buying a guitar is still quite the investment. You’ll likely be playing the same tune for a few years, maybe even longer – so it’s a good idea to think about your goals from the very beginning. If you see yourself playing folk-style music like Bob Dylan, James Taylor or Jack Johnson, then the acoustic guitar is going to be the most appropriate choice for you. This will sound best for strumming casually. On the other hand, if you want to play some loud rock in the style of Jimi Hendrix, then consider an electric guitar since that’s the instrument you’ll need to make those kinds of sounds.

Planning on playing in a band?

You must also pay some consideration of the thought of whether you see yourself playing the guitar on your own, or if you want to be in a band – or the middle ground, just jamming with some friends. If you’re planning on playing solo exclusively, an acoustic guitar can work much better because you won’t need to be amplified in order to hear yourself over other instruments. On the other hand, if you’re planning on playing in a band at some point, you may want an electric guitar so you can use an amplifier to be able to play loud enough in order to be heard over the drums and other instruments. Naturally, there are acoustic guitars that can be plugged in as well, but that’s something else to consider entirely. Or you can just ask about those at the music store when you go out to buy your guitar.

5 Ways To Record An Album Without Bankrupting Yourself (Ezine Ready)

0
by on May 12, 2012 at 10:54 am

Let me tell you something. As a musician, there are few better feelings than when you first hold your own CD in the palm of your hand. That’s yours. You did that. And while memories of gigs and good times may fade, that album will be there forever – whatever you do, wherever you go, that album will be a testament to your achievements, your musicality and your creativity. It might even make you rich.

Pretty much every band I’ve ever worked with, in fact pretty much every band I’ve ever seen, wants to record an album. Only a minority of them even start, and still fewer finish. I ask them why, and the number one reason I hear, every time, is that they can’t afford to do it.

This is rubbish. It’s possible to record a pro-quality album for next to nothing, and in this article I’m going to tell you how to do that. If you do have some money to spend, I’ll tell you how to use it to get the most for the least.

1 – Be organised

Bands talk about money being the biggest problem but actually it’s more likely to be lack of organisation. Really ask yourself, is your band ready to record an album? Ask yourself the following questions:

Does your band actually have 10-12 good songs, that it knows how to play, and has agreed how to play? Even small changes to songs midway through the recording process can result in dozens of hours of work, and any associated costs, being wasted. Do your tinkering before you start.

Does your band have a settled lineup? Swapping out one musician for another and re-recording their parts costs a fortune in time and money, and the new guy will want to play the parts his way. If he’s a drummer, that may mean you need to start again to keep the recordings tight. If your band goes through more drummers than Spinal Tap, and who gets to play bass each week depends on which bassist the singer hates the least, then you’re not ready to record an album.

Does your band have the time and patience required? However long you think the album will take to record, it will take longer, guaranteed. You need to be confident that the members of your band can cope with the frustration. People with short fuses don’t last the distance, and this will waste money. Also, playing an instrument with the red light on is a skill in itself. If you don’t want to waste money on bad takes, they’re going to need the discipline to practice recording on their own.

2 – Invest, don’t spend

A lot of bands get overexcited about recording an album, and waste money on stupid stuff. Before opening up your wallet for anything, ask yourself the following question:

Will I be able to use whatever I am buying again, or just for this album?

That’s the difference between investing and spending. If I spend £1000 on studio time for my band, then that studio time only goes towards that recording. If I want another recording, I need to spend another £1000. In fact, if I don’t like what is recorded in that £1000 of studio time, I’ve wasted it all. I might as well have flushed it down the toilet.

However, if I spend £1000 on a computer, software and an audio interface, I can use those things again and again and again, for this album or subsequent albums. It pays for as many takes as I like, forever. In fact, let’s look at a typical setup for recording an album at home:

Computer: £800
Good studio monitors: £300
Reaper recording software: £40
EZDrummer drum sequencer software with expansion: £75
USB recording interface: £120
SM58 mic with stand, lead and popshield: £100
Guitar: £400
Bass: £300
Amp: £400
Pedals: £200

That’s a total of £2735 (about $4000). Some bands spend more than that just on mastering. And that figure assumes that you have to buy it all from scratch. I’m guessing your guitarist already has a guitar, and you’re reading this on a computer, so you’re probably more than half way to that total already. With that setup, you can record as many takes as you like and it won’t cost you another penny, whether you nail that guitar solo on the first take or the ninety-first. And you can record your next album for free. That is an investment, and one that will probably more than pay for itself during the first album that you record with it.

How do I know that the setup above will be good enough to record a pro album with? Because that’s the setup I recorded my first album with, and I turned professional as a producer and audio engineer on the back of it.

3 – Develop your skills

If your aim is to save money, then there’s no better way than doing things yourself instead of paying other people to do them. Why spend money to record in a studio when you can do it in your bedroom for free? Of course, the downside is that you’re on your own. You don’t have the support of a studio engineer or producer. So you need to learn how to do those things yourself.

Recording, sequencing, arrangement, mixing and mastering are all skills that you will need, but they are skills you can learn. Nowadays there is so much instructional material available, much of it for free, that there’s no excuse not to educate yourself. Of course, this takes time. Nobody can become an audio superman overnight. But think back to the difference between spending and investing. An hour of recording bad takes that you won’t use, or making a terrible mix that attacks the ears of the listener, is time spent. An hour of learning how to do those things well is time invested, and like your equipment, you can use those skills again and again.

You don’t have to shoulder the burden all yourself either. As long as those skills exist within your band, the work can be shared out according to who can contribute what. Chances are, like the equipment, that at least half the required skills already exist in your band already.

4 – Be sceptical of big names

I might upset a few people here, but this is the number one way that bands waste their money when they record an album. They get the guy who did their favourite band’s album to come in and produce/mix/master/whatever. Chances are they didn’t get what they paid for.

Why? Well look at it this way. If you’re unsigned (and maybe if you are signed, if it’s on a small label), your album, no matter how great it is, is not going to appear on that guy’s CV. If he’s worked with, say, Aerosmith, then Aerosmith will be on his CV, not you. If people want to hear how good he is, they’ll listen to the Aerosmith records he did, not your record. So he doesn’t exactly have much of an incentive to give your album his maximum time and attention, especially as you’re probably paying him much less than Aerosmith did.

Compare that to Johnny Up-and-Coming producer in your home town. This guy wants to build up his CV and demonstrate his skill, so that he can work with the likes of Aerosmith some day. He will charge you less than the other guy because he doesn’t have the CV to justify charging the earth for his services, and because he actually wants your business. Your album WILL be on his CV, and he WILL be using it for his press kit and demo CD. Your interests and his interests coincide – if he does a great job on your album, then that’s good for him AND good for you, so he’ll bust a gut to make your record sound as good as he can. Aerosmith guy couldn’t care less; he just wants your money.

Yes, the expensive guy might just get you a recording that sounds ever so slightly better (though that’s by no means guaranteed), but you will have paid thousands more for a very small improvement. Most musicians won’t even be able to tell the difference and your fans certainly won’t. Could you have spent those thousands better? Could you have invested it?

5 – Get the right peer group

Of course you could save even more money and do it yourself. But how do you know that what you’re coming up with is any good? Even if you have hired in help, how do you know that they’re doing a good job? You need feedback, but you have to be fussy who you get it from.

You can’t just upload your recordings to an internet forum and ask for feedback, because you have no idea who those people are. If you do, you’ll get some feedback from people who know what they’re talking about, but also from idiots, lunatics, trolls, people with hidden agendas and 12-year-olds and you won’t be able to tell the difference between any of them. That’s the problem with internet anonymity – you don’t know who’s at the keyboard and why they are posting.

So you need to hook up with the right people. It doesn’t matter if you know them personally, so long as you know who they are. Of course, you have to give them a reason to want to help you, and you may be asked some favours, even if they’re small ones. If you do have strong skills you can offer, then you can trade that skill for feedback and mentoring in the areas you need help on. For example, in the past I’ve traded my writing skills for mentoring and assistance in music and production – I’ve helped musicians do things like appeal against parking tickets and write letters of complaint, and in return they’ve shared their knowledge and experience with me. It’s not even a formal arrangement, it’s just what friends do. Think about who you know and what you can offer them. Networking like this takes time and effort, but it doesn’t take money.
